Foothill's athletic department is a competitive program with a wide variety of sports to provide opportunities for all students.
Athletics at Foothill are self-funded. Athletic director costs, trainer fees, transportation expenses, uniform expenses, equipment upgrading/replacement and tournament entry fees are self-funded. As such, a voluntary donation is asked of each player to help fund these valuable programs as well as to support our Foothill Athletic Boosters.
All students are welcome to participate in athletics whether or not a donation is made. However, without your generous support, athletics at Foothill would be unable to continue.
Update on Athletics for Foothill High School
January 28, 2021
Good Evening Foothill students and families,
We wanted to provide some information with you regarding the status of high school athletics and some important updates.
We just got word this morning that we have been given clearance at the Alameda County level to begin high school athletics following the state adopted colored tier system for allowing sports. The East Bay Athletic League (EBAL) approved updated schedules two weeks ago and the North Coast Section (NCS) met today to approve an updated schedule for our sports to align with the colored tier system. Since those approvals have taken place, we can begin sports that are allowed in the purple tier, which are as follows:
- Girls Golf
- Boys Golf
- Girls Tennis
- Boys Tennis
- Cross Country (Boys and Girls)
- Swimming and Diving (Boys and Girls)
Our plan is to start these sports on Monday, February 8th and follow the newly adopted schedule for these sports. We will post the schedules to the Foothill website in the coming days.
To prepare for the start of these sports, if a student wants to participate, then there has to be an athletic clearance on file. If you have not already done so, please click on this link to access the Athletic Clearance page on the Foothill website and follow the instructions on that page. Everything is done electronically and there is no paperwork to turn in physically to the office. If a student is interested in participating in other sports that can start in the other colored tiers, then the clearance process can be completed now as well. The other colored tiers sports are as follows:
- Girls Lacrosse
- Track and Field (Boys and Girls)
- Boys Lacrosse
- Boys Soccer
- Girls Soccer
- Boys Volleyball
- Girls Volleyball
- Boys Water Polo
- Girls Water Polo
- Boys Basketball
- Girls Basketball
We will send out other information regarding the required safety protocols and procedures that we are required to follow, including face masks while on campus and during practices. There will be some important information to review regarding health screeners to ensure the health and safety of all of our student-athletes and coaches.
Finally, since athletics is all self-funded, we ask for voluntary donations to help support our programs. Donations that we collect cover the cost of coaches stipends, officials fees, and transportation costs (if utilized for a program). Families can donate as part of the athletic clearance process or can submit donations directly to the school. Each program may send out specific information for their specific sport regarding donations as a follow up.
We appreciate everyone’s patience as we have navigated this pandemic and the impact it has had on our athletic programs and student-athletes. We truly appreciate the hard work of the coaches who have volunteered their time since the Summer of 2020 to run off season camps for athletic programs.
If you have any questions, please reach out to us and let us know.

Athletes and their parents must attend the informational meetings for fall, winter and spring sports. Please check the website for meeting dates. You'll get all the info you need regarding fall sports.
Athletes must turn in completed sports packets, including a physical exam, before they allowed to try out for a team or attend practice. FALL SPORTS: It's crucial that all sports packets be turned in before school ends in June.
Please click on the Sports Packet link in the upper right corner of this page to access the entire sports packet. An annual physical exam or statement by a medical doctor is required certifying that the student is physically fit to participate in athletics. The sports packet page includes the form athletes must take to their physical exam and then turn in with their sports packet. Please note that a chiropractor's assessment is no longer valid.
The voluntary donations for sports are posted on the sports packet pages. Look on the right side of the sports packet page for the voluntary donations link. Voluntary donations will be accepted with completed sports packets.
All athletic teams at Foothill stress sportsmanship and fair play. Participation depends on the following:
- Completion of the sports packet (available online).
- Attend a pre-season meeting with the coaching staff.
- Attend all tryouts and practices.
- Follow all rules of eligibility, both transfer and academic.
All meetings start at 6:00pm
Fall Sports: May 13, 2020 (Virtual Meeting via Google Meet, use the link below to access)
