The Foothill DECA Interim Leadership Team collaborated with Pleasanton Partnerships in Education (PPIE) for weeks to organize an event to benefit the students taking the Career-Technical Education (CTE) classes, Integrated Marketing Communications and Economics of Business Ownership. Students prepared two-minute pitches to present to the judges to start off the interview, followed by a series of realistic questions, ranging in topics from 5-year plans to favorite things to do outside of school, to give students an idea of how a professional job interview would be conducted. In order to make this as professional as possible, DECA Interim Team members contacted many business professionals locally to volunteer to be judges for the PPIE Mock Interviews.
The Executive Director of PPIE, Steve McCoy-Thompson had a few words to say. “I have been a fan of DECA for years and the organization that you guys have put into this event shows how and why this is such an amazing organization. Mrs. Raaker has done a great job and PPIE is very proud to be a partner with DECA and providing this opportunity for students to meet with professionals from some leading companies in the Bay Area.”
Planning this event took a lot of effort, time, and dedication. A couple members of the core group that orchestrated this event elected to comment on their experiences. Trinity Chang, Foothill DECA’s Junior DECA Administrator said, “As part of the coordinating group I was extremely pleased to see everything run so smoothly and professionally and as a student I was super happy to have a chance to talk to professionals and participate in this unique experience.” Another member of the leadership team, Kylie Maeda, a first year member and recent International Competition Qualifier commented, “I’m really proud of how smoothly the event ran; a lot of work went into organizing so it was nice to see it all come together. Mrs. Raaker has done an outstanding job preparing students for interactions and knowledge that goes far beyond the classroom. It’s incredible to be given an opportunity, such as this one, for college and career advancements.”
A special thank you goes out to all of the judges who volunteered several hours of their work day to help out Foothill DECA conduct this meaningful event.
