Foothill Student Crowned Miss Teen Chinatown 2008

Congratulations to Foothill sophomore Angela Chan for being named Miss Teen Chinatown 2008 at the 42nd annual pageant gala in San Francisco on April 12.
Angela competed with 18 other girls from around the Bay Area for the prestigious crown and the honor of being Goodwill Ambassador for a full year for the San Francisco Chinatown Lions Club, which has sponsored the pageant since it started in 1966.
Contestants are judged on public speaking, talent, poise and response to a final question. The girls must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.0. They are encouraged to raise money for the Lions Club to disperse to local charities. This was the first year all contestants raised at least $1,000 for charities.
Angela received a beautiful crown, sash and trophy when she won the title, along with a $2,000 scholarship and a round-trip ticket to Hong Kong. In addition, Foothill was awarded $1,000 in honor of Angela's new title.
The money raised by this year's contestants will be used to help people afford eye surgery at California Medical Center.
