Vice Principal Change

Vice Principal Ryan Templeman is leaving Foothill in order to spend more time with his family. His last day will be Feb. 12.
Foothill's band teacher, Josh Butterfield, will take over as interim vice principal for the remainder of this school year.
"Though I have thoroughly enjoyed working with the Foothill staff, students, and parents, I've come to realize that administration is not my path," Templeman said. "Fortunately, I'm able to take a few months to reconsider my next steps, including the possibility of going back into the classroom next year."
Templeman was previous a social studies teacher at Amador Valley High School before moving into administration at Foothill.
"The decision was really based on my family and my desire to be around my kids more," he said. "The Foothill admin team, staff and the district office have been nothing but supportive and understanding"
Butterfield will step into the vice principal role Feb. 10 for a couple of days of training with Templeman before he heads out.
"While I am very excited to begin in this new role, it is with a heavy heart that I step away from teaching music," Butterfield said in a letter to band parents. "I knew very early on as a music student in Pleasanton that I wanted to become a music teacher, and Foothill band is truly a dream job.
"However, as a began teaching, I realized that my passion was not only in music, but in public education on a much broader scale. These values sparked my decision to start a master’s degree in educational leadership, and out of that, these new opportunities have arisen."
Erik Nishimori, Foothill's other band director, will take over all instrumental music duties for the rest of the school year. Butterfield and Principal Jason Krolikowski will hold an info meeting for band parents Wednesday, Feb. 3 at 6 p.m. in the band room.
This year, Butterfield has served as vice principal at Pleasanton Middle School, in addition to teaching three band classes at Foothill. He is currently in his eighth year as Foothill's band director.
The school district will advertise this spring for a permanent replacement for the vice principal job.
