DECA Sweeps Competition

Foothill's outstanding DECA students brought home more than 110 top awards from the three-day Northern California DECA district conference held last weekend in San Ramon.

Foothill's award-winning students included 44 finalists who placed in the top eight spots overall and 25 highly coveted top honors, placing first through fourth in competitions.

Students who competed at the event presented business plans and delivered professional presentations to various industry professionals who volunteered as judges. The overall awards include a combination of presentation(s) and/or a written project and/or a 100-question industry cluster exam.

More than 1,000 students in attended the conference. Students expanded their abilities as leaders, communicators, critical thinkers and business professionals. The event was a valuable opportunity for students to apply knowledge obtained in the classroom.

“This was truly an unforgettable experience," Foothill DECA presidnet Crystal Tang said. "Foothill did extremely well, and everyone learned a lot while having a good time.”

“This is Foothill DECA’s best showing by far, and it is largely due to the excellent training implemented by this year’s outstanding team of chapter officers," DECA adviser Tami Raaker said. "I couldn’t be more proud."

Foothill DECA students will travel to Anaheim Feb. 6-9 to compete at California DECA’s state competition. The goal at the state conference is to earn the chance to compete at the International Career Development Conference in Atlanta in May.
