Nine Foothill students were among nearly five dozen enthusiastic dance students who took part in a 24-hour dance marathon to raise money for a local women's shelter.

The dancers raised money by asking people to sponsor them for the dance marathon. They raised more than $17,000 to help pay for a new daycare center playground at Shepherd's Gate, a Livermore shelter for abused and homeless women and children.

The Foothill students who took part in the dance marathon are Miranda Kanowsky, Nicole Gilbreth, Carly Muller, Erin Griffith, Maddie McGarry, Rebecca Deckinger, Allyssa Greaney, Holly Gouveia and Lauren Possehl.

The Nov. 9-10 marathon was hosted by students at the Jazz n Taps Dance Studio in Pleasanton.
