Student Athletes Honored

Eighteen seniors representing nine different sports were honored recently in a National Letter of Intent Day at Foothill.

The April 25 event recognized students who have committed to playing a sport in college. Athletes sign a letter of intent when they commit to play for a school. Each athlete was presented with a certificate by athletic director Dusty Collins, who also introduced each athlete and read a list of each student's accomplishments.

Though athletes had already signed formal letters of intent, tables were set up around the room's perimeter so athletes could ceremoniously sign certificates at the tables decorated with the student's college colors. Foothill alumni Val Arioto spoke to the athletes about her experiences on UC Berkeley's softball team.

Special thanks to leadership students Alex Sborov and Emmy Rodriguez for coming up with the idea after hearing about other schools hosting similar events. The event was sponsored by Foothill Athletic Boosters, the associated student body (ASB), First Tee of the Tri-Valley and Carde Blanche.
