Foothill's concert and jazz bands won top honors at festivals they competed at two weekends in a row.

The fun started the weekend of May 4 when the concert and jazz bands embarked on a weekend Southern California tour and music festival.

Both bands took first-place honors for their overall genres at the two-day Heritage Music Festival at Fullerton Community College the weekend of May 4. Foothill also received the adjudicator's award for the highest-scoring ensemble during the course of the festival.

"We are very proud of our students for all their hard work to prepare for the festival," band director Joshua Butterfield said.

The next weekend, the jazz ensembles traveled to Santa Barbara where they competed against 25 other California jazz bands at a festival at Santa Barbara High School.

Jazz B won best rhythm section, best trombone section and first place in the novice division.
