DECA Students Take Top Honors

Foothill's DECA students totally blew away the competition at the Northern California DECA Conference, confidently walking away with 21 students garnering top awards and most of the 45-member team placing in at least one category.

The conference was held this past weekend in San Ramon, drawing roughly 800 high school students from throughout Northern California. Students competed in 36 different events and categories, ranging from retail merchandising to sports and entertainment marketing.

Despite intense competition, 21 Foothill students won first-, second-, or third-place awards. In addition, 41 of the 45 Falcons placed as finalists (first through eighth place) in one or more categories. Foothill had one of the highest number of winners of any school at the competition.

DECA is an international student marketing association that prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management. It promotes understanding and appreciation of the free-enterprise system, as well as the responsibilities of citizenship.

Students at the conference competed in a variety of simulated business situations. Judges are from the business sector that the event simulates, giving students a true representation of the industry in which they are competing.
