Golfers Win NorCal Title

Foothill's girls golf team won the first-ever NorCal title for their sport, earning the athletes the honor of traveling to Southern California to compete for the state title.

The six-member team beat 12 other teams at the Northern California competition held Monday at the Brookside Country Club in Stockton. The Foothill team had previously placed third in the North Coast Section tournament a week earlier for the honor to advance to the NorCal competition.

The girls traveled to Red Hill Country Club in Rancho Cucamonga on Nov. 13 to compete for the state title. The team faced tough competition and a challenging course, but ultimately came out as the fifth best team in the entire state.

In addition to the impressive NorCal win, player Alex Sborov won the North Coast Section's Touchstone Golf Foundation scholarship. Alex, a senior, will get a $500 scholarship toward her college education.

NorCal and North Coast Section are divisions within the California Interscholastic Federation.

The golf athletes are:
Alex Sborov, senior
Katie Sborov, senior
Winky Wong, senior
Lulu Huang, junior
Annie Hsu, junior
Ashna Jasuja, sophomore

The team is coached by Ashley Gomes Kettman and assistant Randy Isaacs.

Congratulations to the girls golf team for winning their sport's first-ever NorCal title for Foothill and an impressive state ranking.
