We the People Heads to State Finals

Congratulations to Foothill's outstanding We the People team for doing so incredibly well at recent district and regional competitions that the team qualified to compete at the California state finals in Bakersfield in February.

The district competition was a practice contest with Foothill, Amador Valley and Fremont's Irvington high schools taking part. The regional competition included the same teams, plus Monte Vista High School in Danville.

The goal of We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution is to promote civic competence and responsibility among students. The instructional aspect enhances students' understanding of the institutions of American constitutional democracy. Students learn the modern relevance of the Constitution and Bill of Rights.

Competitions are simulated congressional hearings in which students "testify" before a panel of judges. Students demonstrate their grasp of constitutional principles and evaluate, take and defend positions on relevant historical and modern issues.
