Senior Vies for National Title

Congratulations to senior Kortnie Maxoutopoulis for being the high school student chosen to represent California in the America's Homecoming Queen national contest to be held in July at the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim.

Kortnie was invited to take part in the contest because she was Foothill's homecoming queen this school year. While the event is technically a pageant, the competition emphasizes the importance of leadership and community involvement. State finalists compete based on personal interviews and a prom gown competition.

The state competition, Leaders of Tomorrow, was held in Fullerton on March 27. There were 19 girls in the California competition. Students are allowed to compete only once during their high school careers, ensuring a new group of contestants each year.

Kortnie won a college scholarship for capturing the state title and will compete at nationals for more scholarship money. Foothill will get an engraved plaque with Kortnie's picture to display on campus.

Congratulations, Kortnie, and best of luck at the national competition!
