DECA Students Compete in State Contest

Congratulations to Foothill's DECA students for their outstanding work at the 60th annual California DECA State Career Development Conference held in early March in Santa Clara.

The state contest brought together more than 2,000 DECA students from throughout the state. Foothill walked away with 21 students qualifying for the International Career Development Conference to be held later this spring in Orlando, Florida. In order to qualify, students must place within the top three spots in their respective events, which encompass knowledge and expertise in finance, hospitality, entrepreneurship and marketing.

Foothill students were also honored for their outstanding dedication and service to DECA. Student Vivian Tsai received the first California Student of the Year award, while Foothill alumni Chris Gauthier won the first California Alumni of the Year award.

Shruti Thundiyil was elected to serve as California state president, and Siyang Qiu was elected vice president of public relations. The two students will work with other state officers to represent California DECA for next school year.

Matt Falcone, Alex Tam, Jason Abranches, Jeremiah Hong and Greig Spivey placed in one or more categories.
