Foothill Dancer Heads to World Competition

Janelle Dorcy's longtime dream of competing in Irish dance at the world level is finally coming true.

The Foothill senior won an 11th-place ranking at a regional contest in Denver, qualifying her to travel to Glasgow, Scotland, in March for the world championships in Irish dance.

Janelle competed Nov. 22 at the 11-state Western Regional Championships held at the convention center in downtown Denver. Irish dance schools from the 11 states sent their highest-level dancers to the competition, where dancers compete in age groups. There were 90 dancers in Janelle's group with five judges ranking the dancers. Only the top 13 dancers get to advance to the world contest.

Janelle has been involved with Irish dance before her sixth birthday. It has been her extracurricular sport and activity throughout her youth with her ultimate goal being to reach the world level.

Janelle plans to study biology or anthropology in college, all the time continuing to hone her Irish dance skills and perhaps earn a dance teaching credential.

Janelle, we wish you all the best at the world competition in Glasgow!
