Band Students are World Champions

Sophomore Grace Miller and junior Tevin Mitchell are among the dozens of talented members of the Blue Devils Drum & Bugle Corps, which won the 2009 Drum Corps International World Championship title.

The competition was held this summer at the Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana. Two Foothill graduates, Olivia Arevalo and John Lee, are also in the world championship drum and bugle corps.

The Blue Devils, based in Concord, has a team of highly skilled competitive drum and bugle corps. The corps that won the international title is the "B" corps, which includes Bay Area students ages 13 to 18. (There's an A corps for young adults and a C corps for younger students.)

The Blue Devils practice relentlessly, tallying at least 60 hours per week of training. They then embark on a grueling road trip that takes them to competitions throughout the country. This year's competition tour ended when the B corps clenched the championship title in Indiana.

Students were awarded gold medals and championship rings for their hard work and talent.

Congratulations to Grace, Tevin, Olivia and John for their outstanding work!
