Back-to-School Reminders and Updates

Good Morning Foothill Families and Students,

We wanted to reach out with a few reminders and updates to help get you ready for the first day of school, Monday, August 12th.

We cannot wait to see all of the students on Monday and get the school year underway. The teaching and support staff have been working hard to get the campus and classrooms ready. It is going to be a great school year!!

Checking Student Schedules in Q Connect:

Please check Q Connect for schedules before Monday morning since some schedules may have changed for students since schedules were handed out at Walk Through Registration due to balancing the size of classes, even if students didn't request a schedule change. We want to make sure that students know their accurate schedules.

Traffic and Parking Reminders and Update:

Information can be found linked here regarding some suggestions for drop off and pick up on campus. Please remember to pull as far forward as possible in the drop off areas to allow more cars to enter the drop off areas.

We wanted to make you aware that some parking spots in Junior Lot near the tennis courts are taken as part of the field replacement project. There is enough parking still available for students. 

Make sure parking permits are displayed in student cars when parking in the lots.

Bell Schedule and Falcon Flex Information:

Please use this link to access the Bell Schedule for the coming school year. It is important to note that school starts at 8:35 on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and 8:00 on Tuesday and Thursday. 

The Falcon Flex period will be on Tuesday and Thursday each week. For the first few weeks of school there is no movement and students will stay in their assigned Flex classroom, as shown on their schedule. Teachers will explain the structure of Falcon Flex for all students, but it is important to note that it is time that is structured for students to get additional academic support, make up tests/quizzes, and use the time for needed mental health support. We will share more information regarding the movement process for students as we closer to the date of movement. In the meantime, if you'd like some information about Falcon Flex, please refer to the Flex Student Movement Information document.

Concerns about Vaping for students:

There has been growing concern nationwide about the numbers of young people using vaping devices and impacts of that use. We share that concern because we care about our students. There is a lot of information that is out now about studies being done on the impacts of vaping on the body, but one thing we know for sure is that whether they discharge a nicotine or contents related to marijuana, they are illegal for students and in many cases are addictive. 

We wanted to put out a reminder that vaping is not allowed for students, especially on campus. Our goal is to create an environment that is free from these items since we care about the health and safety of our students.

Important Upcoming Dates:

We also wanted to let you know about a few important dates coming up in the first few weeks of school.

First Day of School and First Day of Fall Sports - August 12th

Club Fair - August 21st and 22nd on the Quad (Chance to get information about all of the clubs on campus)

Back to School Night - August 29th (for parents and guardians to meet teachers and get information for the school year)

Important Information about Schedule Change Requests:

August 5-16, 2019: Requests will be considered only for the following reasons, subject to availability. Teacher requests will not be considered. 
Class needed for graduation 
Class needed to fill a hole in your schedule 
Class needed to meet minimum “a-g” requirements (seniors)
Adding/dropping AP class or level change (i.e., Geo to Math II)
Adding AVID or Academic Support
Adding/dropping ROP classes with fieldwork or travel
August 19-23, 2019: Elective requests will be considered subject to availability. Teacher requests will not be considered.

All schedule change requests must be made in writing with a parent signature on the appropriate form (available in the Counseling Office). No emails please.

Please note that from August 19-September 27, schedule change requests must be approved by the administrator overseeing that department. 

After September 27, 2019 no schedule changes will be considered.
Please do not assume your request to drop/add a course will be approved until you have viewed your new schedule in your Q account. Final decisions for schedule change requests are made by administration.

We know that this is a lot of information, but we felt it important to share some updates with you. A lot of information can be found on the Foothill website.
