DECA

Course Description

DECA is a career technical student organization that prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the globe. DECA enhances the co-curricular education of members through a comprehensive learning program that integrates into classroom instruction, applies learning, connects to business and promotes competition. To accomplish this, DECA utilizes on-the-job experience, chapter projects, and a program of competency-based competitive events in specific industry areas. DECA’s activities assist in the development of academically prepared, community oriented, professionally responsible, experienced leaders.

DECA Inc. is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit student organization with more than 200,000 members in all 50 U.S. states, the District of Columbia, Canada, China, Germany, Guam, Hong Kong, Korea, Mexico and Puerto Rico. Students Make Foothill DECA History at Internationals

For over 20 years Foothill DECA had been a contender at this highest level of competition but until 2010 had never taken home the revered 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place trophies.  In 2010, Christine Yi placed 2nd overall in Entrepreneurship Participating Creating a Franchise Business; and Connor Wrenn left with the highest distinction of 1st place in Principles of Marketing.  We continued the tradition of excellence in 2011 with Anna Zhang & Vivian Tsai bringing home 1st place in the Hospitality & Tourism Team Decision Making Event at the 2011 International Career Development Conference, held in Orlando, Florida!  In April of 2014, the top honors were achieved by Andrew Nam, Roland Huang and Shivi Bhatnagar taking home the 1st place trophy in the Sports & Entertainment Operations Research Project! In 2015, Andrew Nam (2nd year in a row!!) & David Xu achieved the highest honors of 1st place in the Business Law & Ethics Team Decision Making Event in Orlando, Florida. In 2016, Edward Im & David Xu (2nd year in a row!!) took the top honors of 1st place in the Business Law & Ethics Team Decision Making Event in Nashville, Tennessee!  Most recently, in April of 2018, Benjamin Chen, Praveen Ravisankar, and Valentina Im took 2nd place in the International Business Plan Event!
